Time to Fly

Kateschannel - Time to Fly?

Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there have you been, and there you will always long to return.

— Leonardo DaVinci

There is a connection. Today, after celebrating a niece’s high school graduation, I went with my husband and children to watch some skydivers take flight at the Tecumseh Airport. I believe this sequence of events was all about embracing the excitement of life changes while also applauding the courage of taking on risk to achieve.

Kateschannel - Taking Risk to Achieve

My niece was five when my husband and I married 13 years ago. Today, she is an accomplished, beautiful, intelligent woman preparing to take on the culinary world. She plans on becoming a master baker and pastry chef. It was surreal to acknowledge her readiness to make this life change.

Perhaps the surreality results from my struggle to accept my own children’s continued maturity into talented, independent, marvelous people. Issa will be second grade and Riff preschool come September. While I am immensely proud of their progress, part of me wants to push the pause button on life and keep my children as they are — young, inquisitive, playful, silly, and innocent.

Where did all this time go? Without a doubt it is fleeting. These special times will be gone in a flash. It’s best to pay close attention and to take lots of pictures.
