Bonus Post: Lyric Status Friday — School’s Out

My timing is way off. Plus, I owe you an apology for not writing my Bonus Post in honor of Lyric Status Friday last week. But, the lyrics playing in my head tonight are synonymous with all the young minds that are now free from the confines of school for a couple months. I can identify no matter how old I am and how distant those days seem to be.

You can count on it. This won’t be the last song I promote on Bonus Post Friday. Chris Cornell is one of my faves. Soundgarden, Audioslave, solo, what have you. It’s all good. Damn good.

But, Outshined, is my absolute top when it comes to the Cornell’s magic. It blares inside my car while I drive around checking errands off my list. I envision my college days. The scenes center on the entry-level, night-course I took on graphic arts/printing. My classmates and I are busy creating. Then, in the midst of screen-printing some t-shirts, Chris Cornell belts Outshined from the in-ceiling speakers or from someone’s boom box (it was still the ’90s, people).

After all it is Friday. What could be better? The school/work week is coming to an end; and weekend fun can commence in mere hours.

Today, I have Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train playing on repeat in my head. It’s the tune I associate with watching my beloved Detroit sports teams. I don’t know what it is about this song. But, it revs me up each time it plays for the Lions, Red Wings, Tigers or Pistons.

My cousin Joe prompted me to share just one more post this week. On Facebook, he urged all his peeps to post lyrics as their status for today. So, without a doubt, mine is an excerpt from one of the Foo Fighters’ songs. The Foo Fighters are my absolute favorite band. I believe this talented group of artists will continue to crank out legendary music and lyrics everyone can relate to; and rock to. Thoughts About Music and the Foo Fighters

Music is a gift. Those who are able to create and share it in a way that connects us to each other is remarkable. I feel sad for those who close their ears and minds to experiencing all music can offer due to ignorance, misinterpretation of lyrics or inability to appreciate different perspectives.

Whether it be live or virtual, I find it inspiring to be a part of an audience united in a common appreciation for excellent, relevant and soul-touching music. Last night was one of those exceptional opportunities. I was one of thousands at the Foo Fighters‘ concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

All I can say is that it was one of the best rock shows I ever experienced . . . ever. The Foo Fighters are no pretenders. They are extraordinary performers who inspire, entertain and connect. Rare and true rock talent such as this is legendary. Dave Grohl and his band mates connected with us — their audience — from the time they took the stage until the conclusion of their performance three hours later.
