It’s that time of year. Plans keep me on track for completing projects, meeting deadlines, and keeping my sanity. I consult desk and smart phone calendars multiple times each day. That’s right. Two calendars. It’s a memory thing.
But, as nature intends, plans rarely progress as expected. Uncontrollable variables sneak themselves into the picture; disrupting the schedule; causing delay or even forfeit. Weather, defiant children, moody spouses, illness, family emergencies, transportation issues, DVR dysfunction, and funked-up quarterbacks are just eight on an infinite list.
So, to make it the finish each day — with a sense of accomplishment and a glass of much-deserved wine in hand — flexibility, adaptability and a sense of humor are a must.
Four days until holiday season 2013 commences. But, most have already succumbed to the frenzy. Even my children are begging for a Christmas motif. Honestly, Thanksgiving is by far my favorite. The traditions it encourages are simple. Be thankful, spend time with family — close and extended — eat, drink, and watch the Detroit Lions play football.
Previous Six Sentence Monday Entries …
Two life-long friends from my days at Western Michigan University spent Sunday afternoon with me. One I have not seen for years despite my sister being married to her cousin. The distance of our homes and personal routines ceased to exist. Conversation flowed; as did the wine . It was as if no time had passed between previous meetings. That’s how it is with such amazing, loving, wonderful good friends.
Today, I start with a clean slate. All that happened yesterday is history. That’s what I love about mornings. Each one provides a chance to live better than the day before. Today, anything can happen. Possibilities are infinite.
Entry #9 was waiting in the queue. It was shaking with anticipation. Within moments it would be introduced and have the acknowledgement it deserved. But, then, dreams of celebrity shattered. All hope disappeared as Entry #9 was forgotten; passed up for Entry #10. Entry #9 will have its day… tomorrow.
